Spring Football 2019: Carolina Bearcats

Coach Mallows speaks with his team after practice

Coach Mallows speaks with his team after practice

We met with Carolina Bearcats Head Coach Jim Mallows and his team, who was conducting practice at Fred Kirby Park in Union County on a Saturday Afternoon. The Bearcats (formerly Carolina Pride) provide opportunities for kids to play football at the high school level that are in a couple of different situations - kids that go to home school or charter schools that do not offer football as an option, kids that do not qualify academically at their assigned high school, or kids that prefer an alternative to their high school team.

Coach Mallows stated that the Bearcats are a Christian based program and that they played a very tough schedule last season, but they went 4-6 and expect to have a winning season this year. They do play programs such as Charlotte Country Day and Charlotte Latin, so they are certainly not afraid of competition.

Please enjoy these pictures we got during a portion of their practice, as well as interviews with Offensive Coordinator Walter Freeman, WR Tyreese Wilkes, and QB Wanyae Freeman. We appreciate Coach Mallows and the Bearcats hospitality during our visit with them!
