West Charlotte travels to West Mecklenburg this week as part of the Westside Championship. This will be West Charlotte’s second game in one week, thanks to inclement weather last Friday that left most of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools postponing their games.
West Meck is led by head coach, Nick Mata, former offensive coordinator who was promoted to head coach after Jarvis Davis’ resignation back in January.
Now, the focus for West Meck will be trying to build an offense off the mind of their new head coach. They went 9-3 last season, according to MaxPreps, and lost in the third round of the playoffs to Porter Ridge
West Meck’s game against Rocky River High School was cancelled and will not be replayed, so this game will be their first of the season. Look for the spread type of offense the Hawks will run against the Lions this week. Mata’s offensive mind should be the highlight of this game.
On the other side, West Charlotte looks to improve on the season they had last year. Led by Josh Harris, , the Lions look for him to lead them back to the playoffs. A year ago, this team went 7-6 overall, according to MaxPreps, and also lost in the second round of the playoffs to West Meck, so there is plenty of motivation for the Lions here.
They’re coming off a 28-8 victory over Garinger High School, so they’ll be a little more settled. This should be an interesting match-up between the two teams.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
