The Harding Rams defeated the Hopewell Titans 54-6 in the Week 1 CFI Game Of The Week! This game was moved to Monday due to the storms that ravaged the Charlotte Metro Area the previous night. Some observations below:
Harding really played inspired out of the gate, intercepting the 2nd play from scrimmage and then forcing a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to setup a TD run.
Hopewell had a shot to get back in it after star WR Julian Gray caught a pass, slipped a tackle, and went the distance for the TD. On the next possession, a near fumble almost swung the momentum, but the Ram player was ruled down.
From that point on, the Harding Defense really put their stamp on this game. Between sacks, forced fumbles, and interceptions, it was an impressive effort.
The Harding offense did make the most of the defensive turnovers created, but I was most impressed with what they did in the 2nd half. Coming out of the locker room, they seemed to execute better and clean up some of the penalties that hurt them in the 1st half.
I truly think Hopewell is better than they showed tonight, with them playing again Friday against Berry, I expect them to be motivated to prove that exact point.
Harding moves on to play Garinger this Friday at Garinger, who is coming off of a 28-8 loss to West Charlotte.
Also one last thing, for Dekerius Thompson of Harding not to have an offer is crazy. College coaches, please take a look at the highlights and reach out!
