MONROE, NC, PORTER RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL - Friday 9/13/2019 - While Sun Valley is finishing up the construction of their new field and amenities, they are playing their home games away from home. For this week’s Sun Valley home game, the Spartans took to the road and played rival Porter Ridge, at Porter Ridge. The short trip to Porter Ridge, and a few thunderstorms in the area did not deter a great Sun Valley crowd to pack the visitor stands to cheer on the “home team.” At kick, both sides of the stadium were near capacity on a muggy September evening. Porter Ridge started off hot against Sun Valley right from the get go. Porter Ridge returned the opening kick over 90 yards in what was the first of many big plays by the Porter Ridge Pirates in the first half. By halftime the score was 27-0, with the Porter Ridge offense firing on all cylinders while their defense was playing lights out. At the time of post, not stats were available, but stand outs from Porter Ridge include 3 seniors- #2 Kirkland Harris RB | #4 Alex Chapman RB | #12 Mason Cox QB. In addition, Porter Ridge RB #6 Brandon Perry and WR #7 Thomas Mulroy also had big nights. Sun Valley got on the board with a 15 Yd touchdown pass to #17 Mason Tinsley from #16 SV QB1.
