Last season, the Rocky River Ravens were poised to be a dangerous team in the small 4A bracket of the state playoffs before their season was ended in controversy. According to their head coach, Orlando Gray, that has only made them hungrier coming into this season, eager to prove to a lot of people that their success last year was not a fluke.
In watching the Ravens in practice, they definitely have some players that can help them in those efforts. QB Korey Hailey looks like he can be a real dynamic dual threat player, and MLB Brian Grier is a returning All-Conference player on defense. With these two leading the charge, and a couple of OL’s that have been impressing in spring camps, the Ravens have the elements of a team that can be a sleeper here in Charlotte.
The Ravens have a tough non-conference schedule starting out the season, opening with West Meck, followed by Hunter Huss and then Mallard Creek, so they will have a good idea where they stack up with some of the area’s best teams right out of the gate. But I don’t doubt that these guys will be ready to go and playing with a major chip on their shoulder.
