CFI Game of the Week Coverage - Rocky River at Hickory Ridge

Matt Morrow and Shiree Glenn preview our Week 8 Game Of The Week - Rocky River vs. Hickory Ridge as part of the Charlotte Kickoff Showcase at UNC Charlotte

Game Preview From Shiree Glenn

Rocky River (0-5) travels to UNC Charlotte to take on Hickory Ridge (5-1) for CFI’s week eight game of the week. In Hickory Ridge’s last game, they won over the Garinger Wildcats. Rocky River lost their last matchup to the Myers Park Mustangs.

The Ravens are still looking for their first win of the season and if they want to get it against the Ragin’ Bulls, they’re going to have to “get big” against them. Hickory Ridge has a ton of size up front while Rocky River has the exact opposite problem. Rocky River football coach, Orlando Gray, has a tall task ahead of him.

Hickory Ridge has only lost one game this year, against Northwest Cabarrus. It seems like they have the tools to win games, but how will that translate during this game? Although Rocky River may not have a ton of size, they have some speedsters both at the quarterback and receiver positions. That could work against Hickory Ridge if they aren’t careful. Head coach Jupiter Wilson trusts that his guys take care of business Saturday against Rocky River. They have a balanced passing and rushing game, along with a stuffy defense.

Kickoff will be at 5 p.m. at UNC Charlotte.

Harding Rams Win Bounce Back Game

Harding won this non-conference match 20-14, please enjoy these select highlights from this game courtesy of Shiree Glenn of Charlotte Football Insiders

The Harding Rams held on to beat Rocky River Ravens 20-14, last Friday night.

The Ravens have now fallen to 0-3 for the season and have a ton of questions to answer. Rocky River was not without scrap though—they hung in with Harding until the very end. Senior wide receivers Antjuan Collins and Isaiah Mcilwain were the stars that night as they each grabbed touchdowns from fellow Senior QB Korey Hailey.

The Rams did not disappoint scoring on both the offense and the defense. Junior defensive end, Tylon Dunlap and senior running back Maleik Faust scored the two on offense while senior Dekerius Thompson posted an interception for a touchdown on defense. This win at home for the Rams was a great bounce-back win and one that was much-needed.

The Ravens have a bye this week so let’s see how they use the time off to regroup themselves for their game against Butler High School on Sept 27. They have had a couple of close games and have the formula to convert those into wins. It will be a hostile crowd for them as they travel to their second straight away game.

Harding will play the North Mecklenburg Vikings this Friday night at North Meck. The Vikings are 0-3 for the season and will be looking for some get back against the Rams. This will be another test for Harding. Will they prevail?

Kick-off for both games will be at 7 p.m.
