Hunter Huss travels to Zebulon B. Vance this week for Charlotte Football Insiders’ game of the week. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Vance, ranked number 3 in the North Carolina Maxpreps State Poll, is led by head coach Glenwood Ferebee and quarterback Austin Grier. They lost Head Coach Aaron Brand to a coaching job in South Carolina at Irmo High School. Under Brand’s leadership, Vance went 14-2 last season, losing only to Mallard Creek during the regular season and Wake Forest in the state championship.
Last week Vance traveled to Virginia and beat Heritage, 35-7, ending their 13-game win streak. They look to build on that momentum against Hunter Huss. Can they have another offensive showing against a team who, one week ago, held their opponent to just 3?
On the other side, Hunter Huss High School out of Gastonia, is ranked just five spots behind Vance in the North Carolina Maxpreps State Poll. Their sole loss last season came to Charlotte Catholic High School during the third round of the playoffs.
Last week was a defensive game of sorts that left them winning just 7-3. Huss is really going to have to bring that defense again this week if they hope to keep Vance at Bay.
It’s clear that both teams have strong defenses so I’m looking for this to be a low-scoring game.
