The Vance Cougars had a strong aerial attack in this one, coupled with two Jahlik Cooper rushing touchdowns, one starting things off, and one finishing them off, to pick up a 35-0 win over the Hunter Huss Huskies in our CFI Week 3 Game Of The Week.
Pictures from last night’s game can be seen at the link below:
We have game highlights below as well as interviews with Vance - Head Coach Glenwood Ferebee, Defensive Coordinator Anthony Hackett, CB Marqui Lowery, QB Austin Grier, and RB Jahlik Cooper. Some brief observations below:
Hunter Huss Head Coach Jamar Mckoy started his star ATH Dontavius Nash at QB for one series before bringing in senior QB Zo Wallace, who had been previously injured. It was obvious the Huskies were protecting him in their play calling, and this was a good game for Wallace to get his feet wet before jumping back in next week.
The Vance defense receives a lot of attention and deservedly so, but the Huskies defense is not bad by any stretch. I think they will still be in a lot of games in their conference because they can be physical and fly to the football.
Both myself and Brandon Black, our CFI photographer both agree that the strength of the Vance defense is speed. They make it difficult to run right at you, and it’s very difficult to get to the edges because of that speed. You will have to have a passing game to have sustained success against them.
Vance has a lot of playmakers, and I think that along with Grier’s dual threat ability on offense give them an opportunity to be very dynamic this season. Once they get things together, this offense has a chance to be very potent, even more so than now.
