Weddington cruises past Catawba Ridge 45-7

WEDDINGTON, NC 9/16/2019, The Weddington Warriors only needed a couple of quarters to score 5 touchdowns and take control of a Monday night game against the Catawba Ridge Copperheads. Those 5 scores included an early interception that was returned for a TD by 2019 Shrine Bowl selection #24 Alec Mock. Mock is 6’ 3”, 220lbs and is a dominating ILB for the Warriors. Congrats to Alec on his 2019 Shrine Bowl selection. Junior RB Will Shipley broke free early in the game as well and

Catawba Ridge is a brand new school which opened it’s doors in August 2019. The Copperheads are also a brand new football program. Located in Fort Mill, SC Catawba Ridge High has no seniors in their inaugural year.

Although Catawba Ridge is a brand new program, the Copperheads kept their chins up and played hard against the super-stacked, well coached , and reigning state champ Weddington Warriors. The Copperheads were unable to move the ball against an outstanding Warrior defense. After the halftime break, Catawba Ridge Head Coach Zac Lendyak encouraged his players to fight hard and stay focused. They did just that, and early in third quarter #55 Asa Johnson blocked a Weddington punt. Johnson then proceeded to complete the play with the scoop and score to put the Copperheads on the board. Very exceptional special teams play against a top tier Weddington punt unit.
